Hi everyone,
I am leading the Tuckaseegee and Nantahala trip on June 26th and 27th. The plan is to go down on Friday. Stay at Turkey Creek Campground (if I can get reservations). Kayak the Tuckaseegee on Saturday and the Nantahala on Sunday. This trip is great for beginners or anyone wanting to improve their skills.
The Tuckaseegee section is from Dillsboro Dam to Rt. 1392 (Barkers Creek). This is a Class II section with a couple Class III rapids.
The Nantahala section is the Power Plant to Wesser (NOC). This section is Class II+ finishing with Lesser Wesser which is Class III on the main line. There will be many opportunities to surf and play on the rapids in this section.
Turkey Creek Campground is one of my favorite campgrounds. A shady quiet campground with a private trail to Fontana Lake for an evening dip. Mike (the owner) passed away recently. His wife (wish I could remember her name) is running it by reservation only now. https://www.turkey-creek.com/
