Paddlers don't miss this great opportunity to be a lifesaver on trips! The HCKC is proud to offer its own CPR/AED and wilderness first aid class (WFA). WFA is the assessment of and treatment given to an ill or injured person in a remote environment where definitive care by a physician and/or rapid transport is not readily available. Participants will learn how to assess, treat, and (when possible) contain emergencies within the scope of their training. Think how important this could be when you are on the river and far from help. This training is being provided by a certified instructor recommended by another club.

An 8 hour class will be held on Saturday, February 17th in Brownsburg. The class will start at 9 am and is expected to complete around 6 pm. Limit of 60 attendees with a minimum of 12. The cost (includes the ESCI WFA Field Guide) will be $75 per HCKC member, $100 for non-members.  For those who hold an ESCI WFA card from two years ago and already have a hardcopy of the field guide, a discounted rate for the class is available (which includes a download of the current ESCI WFA Field Guide) of $65 per HCKC member, or $90 for non-members.

Lunch and an afternoon snack will be provided. This course entails 3 hours of CPR/AED training and 5 hours of wilderness first aid training.

Background on the instructor: "I am a Lieutenant and EMT for Fishers Fire Dept. and have been there for 14 years.  I have been teaching CPR/CPR and First Aid classes for about 12 years and picked up the WFA class about 6 years ago.  I used to teach several fire certification classes for the State of Indiana but I no longer do those.  I quit doing the fire classes after the CPR/AED and First Aid classes kept me busy enough and the fire classes were all multi-day classes that became a nightmare to schedule.

I am an Asst. Scoutmaster for Troop 293 out of Charlottesville where my 2 sons are active Scouts.  We, as a family live a very active outdoor lifestyle.  I am a co-founder and former President of Raintree Cycling Club in Henry County, we ride road bikes and mountain bikes, kayak, hike, backpack, tent camp and we have an RV."
